chakra energy centresWhen you visit your local crystal healer, you will sit for an assessment to share what you would like to achieve from the appointment. You may be there to reduce stress, insomnia, or for help with a general health problem. Regardless of the reason, there are a variety of stones that can assist in achieving your desired result. After your initial consultation, your therapist will select specific healing crystals designed to balance the energies within your body. To facilitate this balance, you might hear talk about your seven 'chakras.' In case this is your first time hearing about your chakras, we have created a crash course to get you started in learning how these apply to your next crystal therapy session.

What are Chakras?

Chakras are energy centres located in the human body that regulate a variety of processes, including immune systems, organ functions, and emotions. Within the body, there are seven main chakras ranging from the base of the head to the spine. All of the chakras identify by vibration frequency, colour, and the particular function it facilitates in the body. When energy is blocked in one of the seven chakras, it can lead to sickness or injury which is why crystal healing focuses on balancing out these energy points.

Where are the Chakras Located?

There are seven main chakras positioned throughout your body, the locations and meanings are as follows:

Root Chakra

The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine in between the first three vertebrae, on the pelvic floor. This is the first of the chakras, so balancing it creates the sound basis for opening the remaining energy points. Your root chakra is comprised of what grounds you and makes you stable in life, including basic needs like food, water, and shelter. An emotional imbalance in the root chakra can lead to anxiety and fears. Physical imbalances can manifest as problems in the bladder, colon, lower back, and legs.

Sacral Chakra

Located between your spine and navel area, the Sacral, or naval chakra represents the body's pleasure and passion centres. This energy point seeks enjoyment and is the point at which we feel emotions, sensuality, and connections. When this Chakra is imbalanced, there can be a disharmonious exchange with people around you. Blockages can also manifest as psychological, circulatory, kidney, and bladder problems.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus represents willpower and perception; it represents the core of our personality and ego. This chakra is located behind the navel and is guided by the dominant power of the intellect. An imbalance in the Solar Plexus could result in feelings of helplessness, lack of purpose, and irresponsible behaviour. Physical manifestations of the Solar Plexus include arthritis, organ problems, asthma, ulcers, and poor digestion.

The Heart Chakra

At the centre of the seven chakras, where the physical and spiritual meet, lies the heart chakra. As the name eludes, this energy point is responsible for flowing love, compassion, and acceptance of others. A closed heart chakra could result in anger, jealousy, and a feeling of hatred towards yourself or others. Physical blockages connected with this chakra include the heart, lungs, breasts, thymus, and cardiac plexus.

The Throat Chakra

The throat chakra governs faith, communication, and understanding. An open and aligned fifth chakra will speak and listen effectively. This energy point is located in the throat and associated with the larynx, thyroid, parathyroid, tongue, mouth, neck, and jaw. When the throat chakra is unaligned, a variety of physical conditions affecting these regions can occur.

The Third Eye

The sixth chakra, also referred to as the third eye is located in the space between the eyebrows and is commonly called the 'sixth sense.' If you are not familiar with this phrase, it refers to an intuitive perception that we are all born with. An open third eye chakra is your sixth sense and centre of intuition enabling you to have clairvoyance and imagination. A closed third eye could have physical effects on the eyes, head, and lower half of the brain.

The Crown Chakra

The seventh and final chakra is the crown chakra, also referred to as the 'thousand-petal lotus' chakra. Located at the crown of the head, this energy point represents our spiritual connection and source of enlightenment. It is associated with the pituitary gland and central nervous system and helps drive our understanding and acceptance. An unbalanced crown chakra could lead to depression, chronic fatigue, and migraine headaches. With a clear understanding into each chakra, you are well on your way in the process of balancing your emotional, spiritual, and physical energies, the seven chakras all have healing crystals and gemstones which correspond to their particular function. If you are lacking energy or feeling blocked, there may be a healing gemstone that can help get you back on track.
