Unlike other businesses, constantly having new clients for your event management business can be difficult. While other businesses can rely on their clients to return, after you finish planning a one-time event for a client such as a wedding, it is unlikely that you will see your client again. Therefore, in order to make sure that you always have prospective clients for your business, you need to invest a significant amount of time into finding more clients for your event management business. Here are a few simple ways that you can make sure that you will always have clients available.

Always Ask for Referrals

Referrals will ultimately be the best way for you to obtain new clients. Although you may only have your current client for a short amount of time, the client will likely have friends who will be in need of your services. In addition, there is nothing more reassuring for a future client to know that their friends were immensely satisfied by your services in the past. This will make you out to be a much better choice than a stranger that clients are unfamiliar with. Many event planners do not try to ask for referrals, because they feel that it is shameless advertising. However, if you are a competent and skilled event planner that your clients enjoy working with, you will find that your past clients will enjoy referring you. In fact, if they found the experience of working with you to be enjoyable, they will feel that they are doing their friends a favor when they refer you. There are plenty of ways to ask for referrals, but an easy and effective way would be through a phone call. After the event has passed, you can call your past client and ask them how they have been doing since the event. Then, afterwards, you can ask to see if they have any friends or acquaintances that are planning to have an event soon and would find your services to be useful. Make it clear that you would greatly appreciate their referrals. Also make sure that you make it clear that you will reach out to the new client in a respectful manner. Try to emphasize that you are looking for people that you can help, and this will make your past clients more willing to help out.

Understand Your Ideal Customer's Touch-points

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, a touch-point is a place that you will be able to reach out and connect with your ideal clients. If you have not done so yet, take a few moments to visualize the places that your ideal customer likes frequenting. Put down these places into a list. Once you have a list of places, try seeing if you can join the clubs that are popular with your clients, and ask establishments (such as stores, shops, and restaurants) if you could post fliers and leave business cards at their place. By getting your name out in places that your clients will most likely see, you will have better success in locating new customers.

Reach Out to New Industry Partners

If your client is trying to organize an event with you, most likely your services are not the only one he needs. For example, other additional businesses associated with weddings would be jewelers, boutiques, florists, bakers, caterers, DJs, photographers, and more. Put in some time into thinking about what other businesses are associated with the events that you plan. If your event management business is still relatively new, this can be a little difficult to accomplish until you build strong relationships with other related businesses. However, once you start understanding which businesses are dependable as well as reliable, you can start working with them. If you have already established a clear relationship with these businesses, it should not be difficult to ask them to refer your event planning services, while you refer their services to your clients. This is a great method for both you and your business partners to attract more clients. It will also help your clients significantly, as it means that they do not have to face the daunting task of finding other services that they need alone. However, it is extremely crucial that you make sure that the services of the businesses that you refer are wonderful before risking damaging your own reputation by referring terrible and unsatisfactory services to your customers.

Offer a Local Event Planning or Wedding Etiquette Class

Many professionals write this off to be a waste of time. After all, why would you want to teach others about how to plan an event when it should be your job? However, this is an easy way to attract clients, because everyone who enrols in a class will have a need for your services. Make sure that you ask all class attendants to provide you with their contact information as they enrol, with email and phone number taking the highest importance. This will allow you to follow up with them afterwards as well as put them on your outreach list. You should also limit the class to an hour or two and only cover the most basic topics regarding the event. This way your students will obtain helpful tips, but you will not give them too much information and reveal everything that you need to know. Make it clear throughout the entire course that you will always be available to help them out in case they have need for an expert, and consider offering them a special discount for your services as a way of thanking them for attending the class. If your students find that your class is very helpful, they will see you as an expert in event planning. This will help you immensely in the long run as it will help to build up your local reputation.

Communicate with Your Clients Online

Social media is extremely popular today, and most of your clients will likely have Facebook, Twitter, and more. Make sure to create a Facebook page for your business. Add your clients as friends on Facebook, and ask them to like your business page. This will allow you to establish more connections with past, present, and future clients, as well as help you interact with industry partners. By using social media, you will also attract more attention to your official website, making it easier for future clients to find your services. Make sure to ask your clients what web sites they tend to visit, and find a way to connect with potential clients there. Although finding clients for an event management business can appear to be tricky in the beginning, all that you need to do is invest time and effort. Not only will you end up with a steady supply of clients, but you will also build up your reputation and learn how to interact with customers better.
