How to become a CBT Therapist

To become a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) therapist in the UK, follow these steps:
Educational Background:
- Relevant Degree: Obtain a degree in a related field such as psychology, counselling, social work, or mental health nursing. This foundational knowledge is crucial for advanced CBT training.
Professional Experience:
- Mental Health Experience: Gain experience working in mental health or social care settings. This practical exposure is often a prerequisite for CBT training programs.
CBT Training
- Postgraduate Studies: Enroll in a postgraduate diploma or master's program in CBT accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). These programs typically require at least 100 hours of taught CBT skills and theory.
Supervised Practice
