Importance of Anxiety Awareness: Knowledge is Empowering
Anxiety is a Serious Mental Health Condition that Requires Therapy
Many people have described anxiety as a feeling of being unable to escape from yourself. The surge of anxious, stressful thoughts can wreak havoc in both your professional and personal life, despite you having a seemingly 'normal' outward appearance. You may feel that your mind has become your enemy, and all the logic and common sense in the world may not help you relax. Anxiety is a natural human emotion that is an inevitable life experience for most of us. On its own, experiencing anxiety is a common feeling; however, you need to address the problem and resolve it, when it starts to interfere with your daily life. Living with constant anxiety can be emotionally draining, and it can keep you from living the life you want. A small amount of anxiety can be a good thing – it can spur you on to better performance and can motivate you to do better. But when anxiety starts to pervade your life and interfering with your work, social life and relationships, it is time to seek intervention. The very first step towards healing your anxiety or that of your loved ones involves gaining insights and knowledge with regards to anxiety. Learning about anxiety, its causes, symptoms and treatments empowers you to help you or your loved ones overcome their fears and insecurities. Anxiety can stop you from doing what you want to do or being the person you want to be. Anxiety disorders can stem from a fear of disappointment, a fear of failure or a fear of not being liked. Sometimes, deep-rooted causes can manifest themselves as symptoms, but we may not be able to resolve our feelings without professional intervention. It is important to observe that feeling anxious is not the same as suffering from an anxiety disorder. However, severe and persistent anxiety is often a sign of other psychological disorders, such as OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) or PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Leaving anxiety untreated can leave us feeling fearful, doubtful and lonely and hold us back from enjoying our lives. Although the symptoms of anxiety are diverse and varied, they have one thing in common: they infuse your life with fear, uncertainty and worry. Symptoms may range from an exaggerated concern about others' opinions to inexplicable, persistent worries that seem to plague your mind throughout the day and sometimes throughout the night. Research indicates that there are thousands of people who do not seek assistance for anxiety issues. Unfortunately, there is a sense of embarrassment and shame that prevents people from coming forward and asking for the assistance that they need. Often, anxiety can disrupt your daily life to such an extent that you find it overwhelming to carry out even simple tasks, such as checking your post or checking your bank balance. Why choose to live life under the shadow of anxiety, when you can heal yourself and help you or your loved ones cope? Lack of knowledge regarding anxiety can result in untreated anxiety which, in turn, can manifest as compulsive behaviours, panic attacks, phobias or social anxiety. Over time, you may find yourself unable to cope with work and may also struggle with sustaining relationships. The first step towards healing involves recognising that you need intervention and seeking the right type of therapy. Understanding what anxiety is and how it works helps us adopt coping strategies that work effectively to relieve anxiety. Each person is unique and the thoughts, beliefs and attitudes that motivate us are varied. Anxiety disorders can impact each person in a different way, but the good news is that there multiple ways in which you can help yourself. There are a number of self-help strategies, treatment modalities and therapies that can help you overcome anxiety and live your life to its fullest potential. UK citizens can now take advantage of innovative, personalised and empowering help and guidance with regards to anxiety that can help process underlying fears and doubts. There are different types of treatments, including behavioural and cognitive treatments, which can help people lead productive and fulfilling lives. Failure to seek help can result in physical conditions, such as fatigue, which, in turn, can impact your work.Lack of Anxiety Awareness can Delay Treatment
Lack of anxiety awareness can lead to other disorders, such as depression or substance abuse. In extreme cases, treatable anxiety may be left untreated and may result in suicidal tendencies. A worsening of symptoms and deterioration in health can be prevented with timely assistance and guidance. Professional intervention or even self-help strategies can help you cope to a great extent. Often, when we suffer from anxiety, we are well aware that our thoughts are irrational or senseless, but, despite this awareness, we still suffer from bouts of paralysing anxiety. Although our thoughts may appear irrational to others, they seem very real to us. In other words, even if your fears are not validated by your family or friends, it does not mean that the fears do not exist for you. This is when a therapist or psychologist can help you to get to the root of the problem. Anxiety disorders tend to distort our perception of situations, people and places, and thus we can end up developing phobias. This is where techniques, such as calm breathing and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, can help you feel grounded and focus your attention on the present moment. Otherwise, extreme anxiety and panic attacks cause a random scattering of thoughts, and we may find it difficult to follow a coherent thinking process. Simply willing yourself to be okay may not always work, and you may find yourself continuing to suffer from severe symptoms that threaten to cripple your life and your happiness. Most of the time, anxiety disorders can trigger an avalanche of disturbing thoughts, and you may be unaware of the present moment. There is so much going on in the mind that we miss out on fun and joy. Rising levels of general stress and high expectations have resulted in a noticeable spike in anxiety levels in the UK. An increasing number of people are affected by anxiety which leads to reduced productivity and increased employee absenteeism. Anxiety disorders can negatively affect productivity, not only in the workplace, but also in terms of mundane, daily chores. Anxiety awareness can help you gain knowledge about the condition, its causes and symptoms and, most importantly, you can decide if you or a loved one need assistance or therapy.Learn with confidence...
