WaxingWaxing your legs is relatively common and it is certainly a beauty procedure that a huge number of women opt for on a regular basis rather than shaving. However, it is also fair to say that there are a number of pros and cons of having this done and it is useful for you to understand what those are before you either do it yourself or visit a salon.

The Pros

The main pro is that waxing does give you a smoother finish when compared to shaving. You have to remember that when you shave it is going to leave microscopic pieces of hair and in next to no time you are going to start to feel those little pieces of stubble across your legs. It is not exactly a great experience and you will have to shave more often in order to feel comfortable and who wants to do that? This leads us to our next pro, the fact that it does last longer when compared to shaving. This is because of the way in which all of the hair is removed. When waxing, the hair has to start its growth process from the beginning which will take much longer to grow back as opposed to shaving. As a result, waxing is something that removes the need for frequent shaving. The fact that you will not need to shave means that waxing your legs is a definite time saver. Yes, it might take you longer to have it done than a simple shave, but you gain in the long term since you can do it once and then forget about it for a number of days. We also have to address another important point compared to some of the hair removal treatments that are available over the counter. These treatments can have various chemicals in them that could potentially irritate the skin and because of this you are going to run the risk of damaging your skin. Wax is not going to do that and any irritation that you have is linked more to the hair being removed rather than any allergic reaction. In other words, it is kinder to your skin. Finally, there is an argument that regular waxing can lead to the hair growing back not only slower, but also finer as well and that means that it is easier to deal with in the future.

The Cons

Now, we do accept that this all sounds good, but nothing is absolutely perfect. Well, it is true that there are some cons associated with waxing your legs and in the interests of fairness it is a good idea to check them out as well. The first con is that you will need to go to a salon to get it done to make sure that there are no mistakes. Yes, you can do it at home, but this is certainly not advisable unless you are very confident in your abilities. However, the problem with going to a salon is the need to make an appointment and suddenly having your legs waxed can turn into something that takes an entire afternoon which is not ideal. Next, it hurts and there is no way around that. This is often seen as being one of the major disadvantages simply because people are not good at handling pain and you certainly do not experience that when you are shaving your legs instead. However, one of the major cons of waxing is that you do run the very real risk of developing ingrown hair and they can be very troubling and cause you even more pain and irritation than anything associated with shaving. These ingrown hairs can be caused by the waxing procedure not being correctly followed. It is amazing how easily this can happen if the correct amount of care is not taken throughout the process. This is one of the major problems with doing it at home as it is all too easy for you to then make those mistakes and treating ingrown hairs is not as easy as it seems. In addition, if you have sensitive skin, then there is every chance that you could actually develop an allergic reaction to the wax whereas this is less of an issue with shaving since you are able to buy special shaving gel or foam specially designed for those with sensitive skin. Sadly, there is no such option with waxing so you just need to take your chances and hope it will work out. Finally, there is the cost because having this done professionally is not cheap and it is certainly more expensive than shaving. However, if you are able to afford to have it done every two to three weeks, then this is still a great option for you.   As you can see, there are various pros and cons associated with having your legs waxed and the main thing is that you consider your options before deciding if this is something for you. Don't forget that going to a real salon rather than attempting it at home.
