Lower Back Pain

Note: This course has been designed primarily for Fitness Instructors. More than 75% of the UK's population suffers from lower back pain, and this is one of the most common problems after colds and flu. As a fitness instructor, you will often encounter clients who suffer from lower back pain. This course on lower back pain explains all you need to know about how the lower back muscles function and why people develop back pain. It's very important to keep in mind that physical instructors must stay within their scope of practice and refrain from diagnosing or treating lower back pain. Clients with acute or chronic lower back pain must get medical clearance before you can create an exercise plan for them. This course on lower back pain covers an extensive range of topics related to lower back pain.

You will Learn:

  • The anatomy of the back, including the structure and function of discs, facet joints, vertebrae, sacrum and coccyx, and how these structures work with each other, to provide support and function
  • Common causes of back pain, including degenerative disc disease, slipped disc, narrowing of the spine, disc resorption and pregnancy
  • Risk factors for lower back pain, including age, occupational hazards, fitness levels and training adaptations
  • The three main types of spinal curves: kyphosis, lordosis and scoliosis, and abnormal sagittal curves that cause lower back dysfunction
  • How to perform risk assessments for clients with lower back pain and interpret the results, to create a suitable exercise programme
  • How to train clients with flexion and extension-related lower back problems, using different approaches

Benefits of Taking this Course:

  • You will gain a better understanding of how the back muscles and structures work, and this will help you identify possible pain triggers
  • You can use the risk assessment tips to conduct a detailed assessment before creating an exercise plan
  • You will know when to progress or regress a client and when to refer them for medical clearance

This short course was actually very informative and interesting, and learned far more than what you can read on the internet. The modules are an excellent way to learn, as you can complete each module in your own time.

I feel as though I’ve learned a lot from this course and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in starting a career in alternative medicine or as a starter in your own business. This certificate can lead onto other courses in this field.

The customer service was excellent, quick and easy to apply online and even better, you can pay by PayPal.

I have found this course very interesting. Even being a bride myself, you don't actually realise how much actually goes into planning a wedding. Every little detail goes into the course. I can’t wait to start putting my work into action - becoming a Wedding Planner and being part of a couple’s day. Helping them plan their most important day of their lives. It’s been interesting learning how other cultures plan and have their weddings, and how many different themes people choose from. Even to the honeymoon. So many things go into being a wedding planner, it’s not as simple as it seems.

Kelly Ford

The course is informative and easy to follow. I especially liked the history tips given throughout the course.

I have included the payroll Diploma course to add another skill set to my CV and being self employed and in the mature bracket it is good to keep yourself updated on all new legislation. I also liked the option of returning to complete modules in your own time to fit in around work commitments.

I’m a property investor and I have an interest in property generally. I wanted to do this course to broaden my knowledge of property but also make sure I understand my rights as a buyer of property. This is a nice introduction to the profession of Estate Agency but also negotiation and building networks. It includes material on both residential and commercial property, and also property maintenance. It touches upon the Estate Agents Act 1979 which is very important. My next step will be to review the act. It is a very broad course and is a good place to start.

Chris Pinnock

The course covers all the necessary aspects of SEN education, and is produced in manageable modules for learning.

In terms of value and content, I would rate this as one of the best online diploma courses.

Ainsley Nugent

Great support from tutors and IT staff! Emails are always answered quickly, even on late nights and early mornings. Good clear lay out across the website, very easy to navigate and keep track of modules completed.

Would highly recommend to anyone looking to gain more knowledge in their own time and develop in the area. I completed this course on my commute to and from work. I also received a student card with this course that was great to benefit discounts from.

I am already thinking about what other courses I can start with New Skills Academy as soon as possible!
